Tomorrow is the Last Show
After over 4 years of doing the Tom Kirkham Show on KWHN, other business and personal interests are intruding on my time and tomorrow show #210, will be the last. (Technical difficulties prevented last week from being the last show)
I have many people to thank over the years, especially Gary Elmore, who's untimely passing left behind a bit of emptiness whenever I stepped into the studio. Also, to thank is Daren Bobb, Paul Swink, and everyone at Clear Channel that allowed me to broadcast, even though I had little experience or confidence in doing a radio show.
Also, Chris, Shayne and Gio for their work on the sound board, freeing me up to just be my self.
And last but certainly not least, you, the audience for tolerating our shenanigans, our lack of broadcasting experience and continuing to tune-in over the years. You may be interested to know that even though we frequently joked about our "5 or 6" listeners, we actually had very good ratings. The last time I checked, our audience was about twice as large as the show before, and almost 3 times as large as the show following. That is important to us because that means that many of you were specifically tuning in to listen to just OUR show.
As for the future, we may pop up in a different medium, different time or different place. We have no definite plans at this time, so who knows? Visit the site often for updates!

Googles 1Gbps Community Experiment
Google is looking to provide 1Gbps Internet access to between 50,000 to 500,000 people. They are encouraging cities and communities to respond to an RFI, and are also encouraging civic and other organizations to nominate their community as well.
To learn more and nominate your community, go to the Google Fiber for Communities page.
Apple Store is Down
Is the iPad coming online? New Macs? Maybe its just maintenance. Guess we will see soon.
Google's Gmail to Go Social
According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is preparing to announce, perhaps as early as tomorrow, a push into social media. The integration with Gmail could be with both Google properties, such as Picasa and Facebook, and 3rd party sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Guess we will have to wait to find out the details, as the details are just rumors right now.
National Clean Out Your Computer Day, Monday, February 8th
This is the day to give your computer some TLC. Try these tips to get your computer in tip-top shape.
- Use the Disk Cleanup utility in Windwos (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup) to clean up old files you no longer need.
- Clean up your desktop - this will make your computer run faster.
- Remove unused programs using Add/Remove Programs (XP) or Programs and features (
VistaTartare and 7). - Run Disk Defragmenter (Start -> All Programs -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter) after cleaning up the files and programs to defrag you disk.
Speaking of Windows Tartare, this would be a good time to upgrade to Windows 7.
Other tips:
Clean all vents in the desktop or laptop body of dust. A well-ventilated computer is a cooler computer. Cooler computers run faster and last longer.
Go through your floppy disks, CDs and DVDs and throw out what you no longer need. If you are still holding on to valuable floppy disk, better get those converted over to some other media because floppy drives are going the way of newspapers.
