Consumer Reports: "Don't Buy, Apple Lie"

Ok, thats not an exact quote.  Here is the quote:

“Our findings call into question the recent claim by Applethat the iPhone 4’s signal-strength issues were largely an optical illusion caused by faulty software that “mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength.”

Consumer Reports still says the iPhone is the best smartphone on the market, but…

“We don’t believe that consumers should pay extra money to fix the problem,” Mr. Gikas said. “We think either Apple should supply free cases for the phone or come up with another solution. That’s why we are not recommending the iPhone 4.”

Woot! Acquired by Amazon

This video explains it all in typical Woot! fashion:

Fort Google

A group in Fort Smith (for some reason, I am allowed to participate) is making a grass-roots effort to help bring Google Fiber for Communities to the River Valley.

A Facebook Fan page can be found here.  Website coming soon.

Popular Science 137 Year Old Archive Now Online

Popular Science magazine has scanned each issue of its 137 year magazine, and place the entire collection online for free.  Science geeks, head over to PopSci archives here.

Googles 1Gbps Community Experiment

Google is looking to provide 1Gbps Internet access to between 50,000 to 500,000 people.  They are encouraging cities and communities to respond to an RFI, and are also encouraging civic and other organizations to nominate their community as well.

To learn more and nominate your community, go to the Google Fiber for Communities page.

Apple Store is Down

Is the iPad coming online?  New Macs?  Maybe its just maintenance.  Guess we will see soon.

Google's Gmail to Go Social

According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is preparing to announce, perhaps as early as tomorrow, a push into social media.  The integration with Gmail could be with both Google properties, such as Picasa and Facebook, and 3rd party sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

Guess we will have to wait to find out the details, as the details are just rumors right now.
